Getting the Results of Your Mammogram

Mammogram On Screen

1. Your X-Rays Are Reviewed

Once your screening mammogram is complete, at least two specially-trained doctors will review the x-rays taken of your breasts.

The doctors will:

  • Independently check for anything that requires a closer look
  • Compare your new x-rays with any previous breast x-rays (if your last screening mammogram wasn’t with BreastScreen NSW, remember to bring your x-rays with you to your appointment)

2. We Send Your Results

Your screening mammogram results will be prepared and sent to you approximately two weeks after your breast screening appointment

If you have any concerns – or if you do not receive your results within a few weeks after your screening mammogram – call BreastScreen NSW on 13 20 50.

3. Normal Results or Further Tests?

Most women will receive normal results from their screening mammogram.

What should I do if my breast screen results are normal?

In some cases (less than 10%), you will be asked back for further tests.

What happens if I need to have more tests?
